The Gift
by Helen George
I smile as I waken
And jump out of bed,
Today's the big day -
I'm moving ahead!
I'm no longer four,
Today I turn five,
I'm jumping for joy,
Glad I'm alive!
I've looked in the closet
And under the stair,
But, try as I might,
Can't find it anywhere!
The trash can held ribbon
All shiny and bright,
But, where did she put it?
Away? Out of sight?
Then suddenly mom
Appears like a wish,
And says, "Happy Birthday,
Are you looking for this?"
